We are pleased to present a new issue of AJET and in the editorial we would like to discuss some of the challenges involved in undertaking and reporting on experimental research in education and in educational technology specifically. The first challenge relates to the need to find the right balance between internal and external validity in the research design, while the second relates to the need for clarity about the likely causes of learning effects: technology or learning design.
